Boys Hurdles
Both the 110 and 300 hurdles are once again packed with talent. The top returners lists for both disciplines is largely dominated by seniors, with five individuals making an appearance on both lists. Topping both lists is senior Marquis Morris of De La Salle. Morris, in fact, ranks in the top 10 nationally for both events going into the 2014 season.
110 Meter High Hurdles In the 110 high hurdles, Marquis Morris chaulked up 10 significant wins last season that we recorded. This includes the CIF State Championship Final where he set his personal best at 13.90, a mark which ranks him as the #8 returner nationwide. In an event that can be unpredictable, Morris was the model of consistency with 11 sub-14.5 performances in our TFX Database for last seaon. He is also the top returner in the 300 hurdles (more below). Marquis recently signed a National Letter of Intent to run track at USC.
Though the 2013 state field was dominated by seniors, there are some serious challengers for the best in the state over the short hurdles. First among them is Misana Viltz of Millikan of Long Beach, who finished second to Morris in the CIF State Championships, and has a 14.04 wind legal PR to his credit (plus a windy 13.97). Viltz was also a consistentsub-14.5 performer with titles at California Relays and the LA County Champs. The third returning state finalist is Bayrone Manuel of Long Beach Wilson, who has a 14.18 best and was the CIF SS Division 1 Champion. It's worth noting that between Viltz, Manuel, and LB Poly's Juan Ward, the Moore League has three of the the top four returning 110 hurdlers in the state!

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles While the 2013 CIF State Final in the 110's featured three juniors, two of whom went 1-2, there are no returning state finalists in the 300 hurdles. Marquis Morris is once again the top returner in the state based on time, holding a PR of 37.19 which he clocked at the EBAL Championships. That time is over half a second faster than his nearest rival, Jacob Sipes of Oak Ridge, who has a 37.77 to his credit. Our third sub-38 second returner is Jalen Doss of Hercules, who registered a 37.87 at the NCS Meet of Champions. The event looks to be dominated by seniors in the state once again, with only one junior among the top returners.
